About Me

My photo
Welcome to our allotment blog, where I will keep regular updates with pictures of our allotment. We aquired it in February 2012 with raspberry canes, strawberries and rhubarb already in the plot! I am also a chef and will share some of my recipe ideas with you.

Two weeks off and......

So due to my hectic work schedule and busy with other things last weekend we have managed to see what happens if we dont got to the plot for a couple of weeks. Well we were very surprised. All the hard work and effort put into turning the soil and pulling all the weeds etc was in vain as one of the beds was full of young dandelions! It will be an ongoing battle and I suppose as most of the plot was covered in plastic and that we have had some warmer weather they have shot up!

On more positive news we werent doing absolutly nothing! We aquired around 20 strawberry plants from a family member from their garden and also transplanted out Cabbage, Brussels & Cauliflowers that are doing really well. Pictures above show the strawberries & seedlings in our greenhouse but also our first earlies & main crop potatoes chitting at home.

Our seeds we ordered came and are eagerly awaiting April to come to be able to sow most of them but we were able to get in the ground today our first rows of Carrots, Parsnips, Onions, Spring onion & Beetroot. Below are a few photos of the plot where we have sown the seeds, the first being where the potatoes will go and the second where the rest has gone. We also planted direct our first row of radish & broad beans

Our beautiful rhubarb is going really strong has come up well while we have been 'away'!

Away from the allotment in the at home we have sown peppers, tomatoes, celery, pak choi, leeks & lettuce. These are now taking up much of our second bedroom until they have germinated when they will then go into the greenhouse.

To the left is our strawberries that were planted out into rows and mulched with wood chip to keep the slugs off! It's going to get busy and exciting now as everything springs into life and home is looking more like a nursery each weekend!

Thank you for the comments on my last post, I'm sorry I didnt reply but im genuinly apreciate your interest in our blog.
